What is Mississauga Youth Theatre |
|
Mississauga Youth Theatre (MYT) was founded in 1990 by Michael Harding and Anthony Bastianon to give young people the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre: drama, music, dance, technical theatre, design, writing, creativity and much, much more.
Since then, it has grown to be one of the most accomplished theatre companies for young performers, directors, music directors, stage managers and countless other theatre positions in Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area.

The key to MYT's success over the past seasons has been the leadership of professional artists who work closely with the young people. These professionals, experienced in both theatre and education, combine their love for the arts and children in their work with MYT. They share their skills and talents in the arts while always ensuring that creativity, teamwork, discipline, and great fun are an integral part of all MYT activities and productions.
In 2006, MYT was proud to be the recipient of the Mississauga Arts Award - Performing Arts Group (Established) by Mississauga Arts Council.
MYT is open to any youth between the ages of 7 and 25. |

MYT is a not-for-profit organization operated by a volunteer Board of Directors. This group of adults oversee all MYT activities and ensures that the theatre company continues to grow and develop while maintaining a secure financial foundation.

Artistic Director
Denise Oucharek is currently the artistic director for MYT. From its inception in 1990, Denise has provided much of the vision for the direction and character of MYT. Her unique talents and expertise working with young people has brought MYT a great deal of success in all their endeavors. As a professional artist,
Denise has appeared in over 100 productions including a two year run in "Mamma Mia" at the Royal Alexander Theater in Toronto. Other performances include "Joseph", "My Fair Lady", "Fiddler on the Roof", "HMS Pinafore" and many other shows in theatres in Halifax, Kingston, Toronto, Calgary and other Canadian cities. Her wealth of experience in the theatre industry and teaching provides an excellent basis for her work with MYT. Denise also directs many productions for MYT and works with all new, young directors. Denise received her Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education from Queen's University

Guest Artists
The highlight of our summer camps and workshops is the participation of professional guest artists. These artists often lead a workshop in one area of either music, drama, dance or design. Previous guest artists have included performers from productions such as "Mamma Mia", "Anne of Green Gables", "Les Miserables", "Phantom of the Opera", "Showboat", "Ragtime", "West Side Story" and "Joseph" along with artists in film, television/commercials (including voice over professionals) and Second City. |
